About Ian

Ian Flaws, aka Bboy RuleOne, is the founder and owner of The Bboy Factory, Denver's original Breakin’ dance studio. Before opening the studio, he lived abroad for several years using Hip Hop culture to connect with and learn from international dancers. He spent 18 months in Seoul, South Korea and studied extensively with legendary Bboys, Born and Physicx of Rivers Crew. He then volunteered at a nonprofit organization in Cambodia called Tiny Toones. There he saw the power of Hip Hop arts to uplift “at risk” youth. These experiences inspired him to return to Colorado and open a Breakin’ school in Denver, in 2012. Since then Ian has continued to study with many iconic dancers in the Breakin’ world such as Ivan the Urban Action Figure, Remind, Kwikstep, Mr Wiggles and more who have all taught at his studio. Today, The Bboy Factory is a globally recognized institution to provide a premier Breakin’ dance education. Not only is Ian an educator, he is also high level competitor, performer and producer. He has produced events, including Bboy Factory Anniversary Jams and two Breakin’ Conventions at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Internationally, he has taught in Korea, Cambodia, Morocco and Bhutan. Locally, he teaches preschoolers, university students, detention center youth, Denver Public School students and his own studio students. Members of the Bboy Factory have gone on to win National Championships and qualify for the 2018 Youth Olympics. He has been a resident instructor for Denver Chance to Dance and the University of Colorado Hip Hop department. His performance credits include The Newman Center, Levitt Pavilion, Meow Wolf, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, The Denver Art Museum and more. He has been featured on PBS, The Colorado Morning Show, RedBull.com, Westword Magazine, 5280 Magazine and Colorado Parent magazine. Today, Ian continues to pursue his own dance career, but his main focus is teaching as the Head Coach at the Bboy Factory.
