RESIDENCY APPLICATION

We love working with professional and burgeoning choreographers and dancers. We have rehearsal space and a stipend to offer, as well as lodging. Dance Initiative typically works with one to three groups per year and we try to schedule the residency season so it has variety in content, style, personalities, and experience. Our residency program is designed first and foremost for the artists - we provide time and space for dancers/choreographers to achieve their goals and dive deeper into their craft. We also love connecting artists with our community! This can take the form of outreach events, workshops, youth classes, and performances. We typically try to schedule at least two classes, a performance, and an additional outreach event like a film screening, demo, talkback, etc.

We are based in The Launchpad studios in downtown Carbondale. Carbondale is a town of 6,500 people. We have a very small town vibe but we’re in the Roaring Fork Valley, which includes several other towns like Glenwood Springs and Aspen for a total of about 30,000 people. Our valley is vibrant, outdoorsy, artsy, and full of interesting events and organizations.

When considering your residency cast, note that Dance Initiative has a commitment to work with and support at least 50% BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ artists each year.
