LOCAL ARTIST(S) IN RESIDENCE

Dance Initiative supports local dance efforts in the Roaring Fork Valley through a variety of efforts, our largest being our Local Resident Artist program. We currently support Alya Howe and have previously supported CoMotion Dance Company, Sam Stableford & Ava Montemayor’s hip hop classes, DanceAspen, Katrina Toews, Erik & Claudia Peña, Johier Begay, Alya Howe, Sopris Soarers, and many more.

Stay tuned for the 2025 application in fall of 2024.

The goal of our local artist residency is to support a local dancer or dance company that is in need of studio space and networking to further their creative endeavors. We are looking for dancers who want to engage with our community, who are flexible when it comes to using a shared studio space (The Launchpad can get busy and sometimes loud), who want to share their craft, who are low-ish maintenance (we don’t have a lot of staff time to offer things beyond what is offered below), and who are pushing their dance efforts to the next level. The residency time cannot be used to generate income, i.e., teaching income-producing classes, etc.

RESIDENCY SPONSORSHIP INCLUDES

  • 100 hours of complimentary studio space at The Launchpad in Carbondale (a value of $2,200) - Please note; Dance Initiative will negotiate the studio schedule in advance

  • Studio amenities, upon agreement (speakers, chairs, risers, etc.)

  • $750 stipend

  • Marketing support: mentions is newsletter, social media, e-blasts, website

  • Potential fiscal sponsorship (depending on needs)

  • Basic ticketing service on website (depending on needs)

RESIDENCY SPONSORSHIP REQUIREMENTS (COMMIT TO 2, IN ADDITION TO BRAND/ORGANIZATIONAL RECOGNITION)

  • 10 Launchpad evening front desk shifts (5 - 8pm)

  • 2 pop-up workshops in our School Partnership Program

  • Teach 1 Happy Hour Community Class series, if appropriate

  • Host 2 community dance workshops
