Saturday Performance of Letter To Congress: A WILD Sanity

15.00

Aug. 26 at Sustainable Settings (6107 CO-133, Carbondale, CO 81623)

Gates Open 6:15pm | Live Music Set By Raccoon Fight 6:30pm | Dance Performance 7pm

Dance Initiative presents Letter To Congress: a wild sanity, an outdoor dance performance, choreographed and performed by Deborah Colley with dancers of CoMotion: a conscious movement project and live music accompaniment by local Indie Folk band Raccoon Fight. This performance is inspired by Wallace Stegner’s famous Wilderness Letter written in 1960 to Congress, which supported the preservation of wilderness not just for ecological purposes, but for the sake of human sanity, and spirit. In his words “We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in. For it can be a means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope”.

Please note that this performance travels from outdoor site to outdoor site (within 50 to 100 yards on uneven ground). Please wear proper outdoor shoes and bring a folding camp chair. Gates open at 6:15p.m., live music begins at 6:30p.m., and the dance performance commences at 7:00p.m. Carpooling and biking are strongly encouraged as parking is limited to 30 cars only (first come first serve only).
